Automation Systems Assignment

I currently work at Harlem Elementary School and our automation system is Follett. I use Follett for circulation, cataloging, statistical reports, overdue books, inventory, and fines. Follett is great for cataloging; it has a database to download MARC records from. I haven’t found any books that I haven’t been able to find the MARC record for. On the other hand I haven’t found any records for DVDs and VHS to catalog them. Follett has reports for circulation stats, collection evaluation, and inventories. I believe that there are more but I can’t tell you what they are without having it brought up on my computer. I use the reports for collection development and making overdue lists. I haven’t looked in to comparing automation systems because I do not feel all that confident in selecting a new system. But I hope to meet with my mentor, the librarian at the high school, to discuss looking at evaluating automation systems.

Website Assignment Part One

I really enjoyed looking at the three out of  state websites. They were very will done. I saw a lot of things that I would like to include on a school website but my top five would be as follows: student resources, teacher resources, catalog for book search, policies and procedures, and an about the library page. I would love to include much more but since we were limited to just five I feel these would be most important.

Montana

I took this picture close to where I live (South of Chinook, MT), shortly after I took a trip to Jamaica. I thought Jamaica was beautiful and had amazing sunsets, but nothing compares to the beautiful sky's of Montana. I am glad to live in such a vast area that is not over populated and still has some simplicity to it. I don't know how life could get any better than this!
